Privacy

How private is your Facebook? You may think it is a steel vault and no one can get into to it that you don’t want to, but that is not true. Anyone can see anyone’s Facebook now a day. Everyone thinks that just because you set all the settings on Facebook to private, that means only people you are friends with can see your profile. However, this is not the case. Ever since Facebook established its privacy capabilities, people have been creating ways to get around it. A study shows that women are more likely to set their privacy to the highest setting, its 67% for women vs. 48% for men (Madden).  There are many websites solely dedicated to hacking into to other people’s pages, it doesn’t even matter if the highest privacy setting is on or not. The best way to not let people see your private information is just to not share it at all (Pirillo).

Question 3

Facebook was formed by a boy name Mark Zuckerberg. Mark has always knew a lot about computers and started programing ever since he was young. His dad then got a software designer to teach Mark computer programming. Mark however was much too fast as a learner for his tutor. Mark then designed a web for his family called, “Zuck Net”. In this book it also says another program he created. “Mark’s creation was a very primitive version of America Online Instant Messenger, which came out the following year.” After that in his fourth year of high school he and another student composed a composition program. Believe it or not in his story it says, “The program was posted online and received so many favorable reviews that both AOL and Microsoft offered to buy a synapse for around $1 million. They also wanted to hire Mark to develop it, but he would have to drop out of school, so he refused.” (“Mark Zuckerberg Facebook Creator”). All the programming he did as he grew up lead him to Facebook. With Facebook they are expecting people to be open to different cultures and different people. Zuckerberg also hopes to increase how people bond with jobs and money. (“Henry Blodget”). In the article it talks about some of the characteristics and why Zuckerberg picked them. In the article it says, "blue, because it turns out Zuckerberg is red-green color-blind. Then they say, "Poking because that's what shy boys do to girls they are scared to talk to." Facebook question #9

#9 Business has greatly benefited from Facebook. Especially small business. Small business now has a quick and easy way to reach out to consumers on something that a lot of people are logged onto daily! Facebook has hundreds of millions of users logged in at a time. It's like bloody meat to shark, companies want that! They want to put as least effort into one ad and have the most people see it and that is exactly what Facebook does for them.

Facebook question #8

#8: Facebook effects school because of how easy it is to access it during school. The majority of kids now have cell phones with internet access. They can easily be distracted but socializing on and off whenever they feel like it. The majority of schools today have computers with internet access which makes it even easier for kids to access Facebook. It is is a little harder to do so in high school or middle school because now schools are blocking websites but in college they are not. Students can go on Facebook whenever they please which makes it that much easier to procrastinate. Facebook Effects work but not as much as it does school. Only times Facebook may effect ones job is if they are on Facebook while they should be working or posting inappropriate things on Facebook that ruin the reputation of the job or company they work for.

"The problem has grown so great that dealing with the fallout has become a major part of many school counsellors’ jobs." (Dannielle Miller)

"...some bullies harass their targets with a barrage of instant messages, like ‘Everyone hates you,’ or ‘You are a loser.’" (Wylie (n.d.))
